About Me

Hi, I'm Lexie!
I am pursuing my master's degree in journalism and communication with a concentration in public relations from Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma. I am a creative and influential hard worker who is passionate about connecting with others. I am skilled at inspiring other individuals to think creatively, and I will use these skills in professional settings to bring people together to meet the desired goal.
I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in public relations and a minor in political science. My unique passion for storytelling, strategic communication, brand management and building relationships has driven me to pursue a master’s in public relations. I am eager to continue my studies, expand my network, refine my expertise and develop more innovative communication strategies to align with today’s evolving media landscape.
Earning a master’s degree in public relations at the University of Oklahoma will equip me with the knowledge and experience needed to thrive in the dynamic industry. I am particularly drawn to continuing my studies at Gaylord College due to the program’s emphasis on strategic management and communication, which aligns with my career goals to work in PR campaigns and management.
I am interested in researching the role of public relations efforts in political discourse in the United States. Furthermore, the ethical concerns related to astroturfing as a PR tactic.
A defining experience during my undergraduate studies was developing Route Relations with four of my peers and designing a public relations campaign for Phillips 66. As the research director of Route Relations, I lead the agency through various research methods to target key publics, including managing a focus group and developing a survey using Qualtrics that generated 481 responses. I was able to apply my PR management skills in a real-world setting, which reinforced my ability to adapt communication strategies to diverse publics and meet the unique needs of a client.
My current goal is to earn my master's degree from OU and figure out what PR theory I want to include in my research for the graduate project. My current studies in public relations directly align with my career goals to work in PR management and campaigns. I hope that my studies can bring a more educated and unique perspective to PR campaigns that will set my agency apart from others. In the PR field, I hope that by incorporating ethics into campaigns and research, I will help public relations be seen as a two-way symmetrical relationship between an organization and its publics instead of a tool for propaganda. Furthermore, I want to do meaningful work in PR that can influence public policy and grassroots efforts.
