The 2024 Presidential Election is getting closer by the day! Here are five things to remember before election day for a quick and easy voting process.

1. Get registered!

Are you a first-time voter? Remember to get registered in your state! The process is easy and can be done online, by mail or in person. All you need is your government-issued ID. Although voter registration applications can be submitted at any time, remember that it takes about a month for it to be processed. So, make sure to get registered a month before election day! Check out your state's voter registration policies and deadlines.

2. Request an absentee ballot.

Absentee voting is a secure way for you to vote from home or outside your registered state. If you need to request an absentee ballot, remember that you must submit your request at least 15 days before election day. There is an absentee ballot for the needs of all voters including standard, physically incapacitated, visually impaired, nursing home, overseas, emergency incapacitated and first responders. If you fit into any of those categories then check out your state's absentee voting policies.

3. Research your nearest polling place.

Before election day, it is important to research the nearest polling place and make a plan to vote for increased convenience. Oftentimes, there will be many options for polling places so there should be no trouble finding one that works for you. In addition, set aside a time that works best for you on election day. I would recommend early in the morning for a fast experience in opposition to the evening when people get off work. Here are polling places in the Norman and Oklahoma City area.

4. Verify your voter registration information.

Remember to double-check your voter registration information if you are already registered to vote. You can do this by logging in to your state's voter portal. Verify all the information to make sure it is correct. The information most subject to change since the last time you voted is your home address, mailing address and political party affiliation. So, make sure to update that information if necessary.

5. Remember to bring your identification.

It is election day! You have already registered to vote, found your polling place and verified your voter registration information. You prepared well! Now you must remember the most important thing necessary to vote: your form of identification! Have your driver's license, identification card or voter registration card renewed and ready to take to the polling place. Happy voting!
